Valentine’s Day Makeup

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I like makeup. Some days, it feels like a mini art project, you know? But other days, it feels like a chore, a requirement.

And Valentine’s Day, with all its romantic expectations, amplifies that pressure. I saw some Instagram post earlier, this perfect girl with the perfect makeup and a perfect boyfriend, and I just wanted to throw my phone across the room (but I didn’t because…you know…phones are expensive.)

So, yeah, I’m rambling. Sorry about that. I guess what I’m getting at is that I don’t have any amazing, earth-shattering advice for you. I’m not a Valentine’s Day. I’m just…me. A person who sometimes likes to wear a bit of shimmer on their eyelids, and other days just rolls out of bed.

  • This is what I do know, though: When I do decide to put on makeup, I usually go for the “glowy” look, mostly because I secretly think that if I look like I’m radiating health then maybe people won’t notice that I actually just ate a whole bag of chips. Shimmery eyeshadow, definitely. And mascara. Like a ton of it. Seriously, mascara is my non-negotiable. I’m convinced it hides all my sins, or at least makes me look awake. And a bit of blush, because who doesn’t love a healthy flush? (Even if it’s a fake one).
  • Lip color is a whole other issue. Red is too high maintenance. Nudes always look a bit…off on me. So, I mostly stick to tinted balms. Low risk, medium reward. I just don’t want to have to be worrying about my lip liner sliding all over my face while I’m trying to eat a burger or something.
  • I’ve tried contouring before, but honestly, I just end up looking like I’ve got dirt on my face. So, yeah, that’s a no-go. I think I’m just not destined to be a contour queen.
  • But hey, if you love contouring, good for you! If you can rock a bold lip, go for it! If you feel amazing with glitter all over your face, then you rock that glitter. Seriously. The only rule, I think, is that you do what makes you feel good.
  • Maybe that’s the whole point of all this, right? Just to do what you want, not what you think you should be doing. And if you feel like skipping all the makeup and just wearing some fuzzy socks and watching a rom-com? Then that’s a perfect way to spend Valentine’s Day too. Maybe I’ll join you.
